The Little Red School House Early Childhood Education Centre, has been providing quality Early Childhood Education since 1968
to families with children from infants (2 months) to 5 years of age (age 6 may attend until they start grade one).
“Children learn through play” is at the heart of The Little Red School House Philosophy. Free flowing learning centres, a physical education program, and an afternoon classroom environment for children entering the kindergarten program, combine to offer children a growing, learning, caring environment for which they can flourish.
The Little Red School House licensed annually by the Ministry Of Community and Family Social Services, follows all staffing, health, building, and fire regulations outlined in the Day Nursery Act. This includes one program staff member for each 3 infant age (2 months to 17 months) children, one program staff member for each 5 toddler age (18-30 months) children, and one program staff member for each 8 pre-school age (2 ½ - 6 years) children. All program staff are certified in First Aid & CPR, and all employees and volunteers must provide a clear criminal background check.
Programming:
The Little Red School House uses Mother Goose Time programming which can be viewed at www.mothergoosetime.com. This allows the entire centre to focus on the same themes which are adapted to meet the developmental level of each group.
The afternoon programming used for the Kindergarten aged children takes place during the centres rest period as children of this age typically don’t nap. This includes fundamental skills, i.e. cutting, drawing straight lines, alphabet skills, etc… math skills, language skills, and science skills. This is a themed base program.
Field trips are an important part of the “Little Red Experience.” While we endeavor to schedule field trips at no cost to the parent on occasion there may be field trip costs. Family members wishing to accompany a child on a field trip are always welcome. We will provide a field trip schedule with each newsletter and ask that each family sign and return it indicating where necessary if someone will be accompanying their child so that appropriate transportation can be arranged in advance. The Little Red School House began our own Li’L Red Bowling League in the fall of 2004. Children are placed on teams of 4-6 and at the end of the year each child will receive an award for his/her participation at our annual awards banquet.
The Little Red School House empliments the majority of our programming outside during the months of July and August (weather permitting). Special Field trips, planting and nurturing plants and flowers, special days, i.e. carnival day, are all planned. We complete the summer program with our Family barbeque and campout near the end of August. All families are invited to join us for a barbeque and children in our JK and SK groups then camp-out in tents with staff members and parent volunteers.
The Little Red School House purchases sunscreen for the entire centre to ensure that no mixing of products occurs. Each child is charged a fee in April and July of each year to cover the cost of the product throughout the summer months.
Swimming is also offered to children in attendance at The Little Red School House. All children must be 36 months of age and toilet trained. Swimmers are in the pool with a 3 to one ratio and a lifeguard remains on duty at all times when children are present in the pool area.
The Little Red School House has several family events throughout the year so that you can meet the teachers, view your child’s progress:
A monthly newsletter from Mother goose is sent out so that the parent knows what skills the centre will be focusing on and offers ideas that the parent can do at home with their child to reinforce those skills.
In addition to the Mother Goose newsletter The Little Red School House Staff send out newsletters
These include special days at the centre i.e. wear red today, pajama day, movie day etc…, the menu for that period, a list of family nights,
field trip consent forms, and information each group wishes to share with the parents in regards to their program planning for the period.
